I did a search on dealmac and found very little in terms of an inexpensive case. Most I found were for smaller drives.
Does anyone have any leads on good deals for a FW enclosure for a CDR? (one that does not have a propensity to explode would be preferred) USB2 is not a must since the iBook it is for does not support it.

It'll probably be cheaper to buy a whole FireWire/USB CD writer than to cobble one together yourself.

FirewireMax
-FirewireMax -this site has some 5.25 inch enclosures for about $50-60, and some for a lot more.

there's a 3.5/5.25 firewire enclose on this one for $39. I'm not sure what brand bridge it uses though, but this is really cheap (on sale)Here

It doesn't matter if you decide to buy the parts separately or as an all-in-one. The price is going to be about the same.

Esbuy has Pioneer DVR-106 with a black bezel and Firewire/USB 2.0 enclosure for $189 USD (minus $10 if you decide to go with the beige bezel).

You can buy the bare DVR-106 drive from LiveWarehouse for $118 or $123 (black bezel is $5 more) and a nice looking firewire enclosure from PCMircoStore for $55. They have other enclosures for a low as $46.

Slick shoes?!! Are you crazy?!!

Has anyone ever heard of Plumax?
PCMirco is carrying one of their cases for a god price and it has an oxford chipset.
