Hi. I'm looking for suggestions or opinions.
I have one of the old 20 gig ipods which works flawlessly, but is close to maxed out (I have a large music collection and also put language learning tapes etc on there). I have just received one of the new 20 gig models as an early Christmas present and am torn between:
1. Ripping open the box and plugging the thing straight into my computer.
2. Taking it down to the Apple store and exchanging it for a 40 gig model and paying the difference.
3. Taking it down to the Apple store and getting a store credit to put towards buying a new powerbook sonmetime next year (I'm still running on a Pismo 500 with 10.1.5 and OS 9 which also runs great, but leaves me hankering for something new).
As far as dilemmas go, it's definitely the best I've had in a long while. What would you do?
Let me know.
thks,
Chris.

Do you really need more than 20GB of music in your pocket at any given time?
I'd keep the newer iPod (it will be smaller and lighter, plus it has the dock connector, etc) and sell the old one.

I've thought about it, but can you really get the most out of the new generation iPod without Jaguar?

I think it depends on what you want out of your iPod. Personally, I want every piece of music I own on my iPod at all times. That way, if I'm out and about and I suddenly want to hear a song or album (which happens quite often) I have it readily available. Plus, my iPod basically serves as a backup for all of my music, which is an added bonus.
If you are the type of person who doesn't need all of their music on their iPod, then I'd say stick with the 20GB. Now, which 20GB you stick with is another question.
Do you want the latest features and design of the iPod? The touch sensitive buttons? The smaller, lighter form factor? The extra features like On-The-Go Playlists, voice recording, etc?

I am in a similar position. 20 gig rev 2 iPod, 17.63 gig music library and growing.
But I also want a new Powerbook G5 whenever it is released, etc.

Well, if you're looking for votes, I'd get the 40GB one. You're sure to fill it up at the rate you're going. Sell the 20 to make up the difference and use the rest toward your next computer purchase.
