I'm in a position to get one of these for a really good deal. Has anyone had any experience with these monitors?
And I also take it that the 18", and other dell lcd's are mac compatible, though they only state pc compatibility, right?

We deploy Dell PCs and LCDs at my job and from my experience, I'm not very happy with the picture on the 1800. Now on the other hand I have the 1703FP which has the same resolution but is an inch smaller and the picture quality is far superior. It is also height adjustable which is nice. It also rotates, but sadly that feature is only supported on my PC and not my Mac.

But yeah, they both take standard DVI or VGA inputs and will work fine with a Mac.

The 1800FP uses the BGR subpixel geometry, not the far more common RGB geometry. MacOS X's subpixel font smoothing is written to support only RGB panels, which is why you're not happy with the way text looks. If you use the MacOS X setting for CRT font smoothing, it'll look better (but not as good as some other panel).

WinXP was also this way until SP1, which added support for BGR panels to it's font smoothing algorhythm.

I have one of these displays on my PC.
