Hi,

Will the AirPort support this setup?:

1. Configure 1st airport to work with my DSL service (this part works).

2. Configure a 2nd AirPort to act like a bridge to the 1st one, WITHOUT CONNECTING IT TO ETHERNET?

So basically, extend the range of my 1st airport by using another one (with the same network name for roaming)?

I hope I'm being clear. Thanks for any help!

Only the new AEBSes support wireless bridging. And they both need to be AE.

Not with regular, old Airport, but it's possible with Airport Extreme (which is what all currently-shipping Macs are equipped with).

From http://www.apple.com/airport/campus.html
"Wireless bridging extends your range
Wireless bridging allows a remote AirPort Extreme Base Station to connect to your primary AirPort Extreme Base Station to share its Internet connection. Previously, all AirPort Base Stations required a physical connection to the Internet. With wireless bridging, two or more AirPort Extreme Base Stations can be satellites or relays to a primary base station, effectively increasing the range of your campus network."

I see now. My existing one is airport extreme, and I had a extra grey one that I thought I'd extend the range with. Oh well!

Time to get another airport extreme I guess!

Thanks!

You could just get an antenna to extend the range of your current Extreme base station. They run like $100-$150, and can extend the range by a few hundred feet. Check the Wireless accessories area of the Apple Store.

I ended up ordering a WET11 from linksys. I read somewhere on Apple's support boards that it worked well for the price - $100.

Should be here Monday for testing. We'll see if it's all it's cracked up to be.

Thanks a lot for the info.
