I have just picked up a new 40G iPod. Just opening the box is a pleasure. Great industrial design.

The iPod has exactly the same amount of diskspace as my iBook :-(. Obviously, I am not going to fill it up with music. I bought the iPod because I wanted to use it as an external drive as well (I am into digital photography and will probably get a card reader later).

I found out that the iPod can only have music that is found in your iTunes library. I.e., if I delete it from iTunes, it will disappear on the iPod as well? Is it right?

Secondly, I also have an external firewire drive (250G) which I use to store my music. However, I only have 1 firewire port on my iPod. Does anybody know if a firewire hub exist?

Thanks.

1. you can set your ipod so that you have to manually update it. open itunes and look for the preference to do this.

2. firewire hubs do exist. but doesn't your hard drive have two firewire ports? plug the ipod into the hard drive.

Thanks very much.

You are right, my external Firewire disk does have an extra Firewire iPod.

I am playing with the iPod sync options now.

Put your music onto an external hd.

That's what I'll have to do, cos my iPod (2nd gen, 20 gig) and my iBook are full to the lid with data.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.
