i just got a 40gb ipod for christmas yesterday, and i would like to get my music off of my HD, i went to do this, but i was shocked when i found out i could not put the music that is now on my ipod back onto my HD. is there anyway around this? please help me on this one

If you are familiar with Terminal, you just tell iTunes to mount the iPod, cd to the iPod disk and search for the files (hint ls -al and lookt for directories starting with a dot).

If you are not a hardcore UNIX user:

http://www.thelittleappfactory.com/software/ipodrip.php

will do the job. There's other out there too.

Yes. I really like this little app. It's a shareware that I paid up for very quickly. You can install it on your iPod as well as on your HD, and just run it off of the iPod, too (with FW disk mode on on the iPod).

PodMaster is an $8.00 shareware app that has worked well for me in the past. The big knock on it was it's slow speed, but the latest version seems to have addressed that concern.
