Hi... I've got a powerbook 17" and the screen is a tad too small for watching movies n stuff.
I can get either a 30" Scenium or a 23" Apple Cinema display...
30" scenium resolution is super wide xga (1366 * 768). Also comes with built in TV tuner.
23" resolution is obviously a lot higher (1920 * something or other).
I will use it mostly for DVD watching, obviously the 30" has a built in TV tuner so I can watch tv on it as well.
BUT if I wanted to use it for work stuff (programming in jedit, photoshop, mail, ichat, etc) would the screen be way too blocky?
anyone have any experience with this setup? What's it like watching movies on the 23" display - is it big enough for a room where you are 6 feet from the screen?

23" Cinema duh. That Thomson would be impossible to do Photoshop with. Too big a screen compared to the available rez.

The Cinema display will be FAR superior for doing work on. And it's beautiful for DVDs.
6 feet from a Cinema Display will be just fine... it's plenty large for that. Average TV viewing distance is more like 10-15 feet, so you're on the close side.

The ACD is gorgeous and a pleasure to work with. Very easy on the eyes and definitely imparts a sense of high-tech fun.
