i'm looking for an external hard drive. i've found several deals, and was wondering if anyone had any good experience with Ezquest Cobra drives, or Western Digital drives?

Thanks

I've bought a Lacie d2 160 gig harddrive in the Apple Store in Tokyo. 30,000 Yen, which is like 239,20 €!

At home, I would have gotten a drive that cheap, only when I build it myself. But not with such a solid metal casing.

i've used quite a few and come to the conclusion that it's best to go with a well-know all-in-one unit (as opposed to building one yourself to save a few bucks). if you don't mind troubleshooting, then go for it. if you need it for work, then save the time and headache by going with something like the lacie external drives.

i'm using a western digital 120 external fw drive now, and although it has been pretty reliable, i find the ac cable to be a bit finicky - the connection is not secure enough (although this may have been fixed in later models).

do you really need an external drive? and if you do, do you really need an external with that much space? in hindsight, i should have gotten a bus-powered 40gig drive for files that i need to take with me, and an internal 120gb+ drive.

happy holidays

i have an imac and my 80 GB is full... I do a lot of video editing, and I will soon be turning my iMac into a home recording studio.

The LaCie drives are rocksolid and cheap.
All around me, we are editing video at a pro level and we all use those drives.
Or you have Avid HD... I think they have life waranty, but they are costy! ;o)
