My Ipod of three years just broke on me. I've been wanting to get a 40gig version anyway. So, I'm not sure I can do without music for too long. Do I take the jump and buy a new 40gig version tomorrow (Sunday) or do I wait and see what Apple do in January? I doubt Apple will reduce the price or bring out a better model although I'm sure they'll do a lower specced version.

I say never wait. If you want it, get it, and know that either tomorrow or next month or the month after, a better model will be released.

That said, Macworld is just around the corner, so the wait wouldn't be too long. If it makes you feel better, wait a couple of weeks and see what happens.

if the next macworld weren't for another 5 months, i'd say definitely get it now. but the next macworld is in two days. technically tomorrow, but Steve's keynote is on tuesday. just wait the couple of days and then you might have some more options. if not, just get the 40 and be happy.

With all the rumors of new iPods/mini iPods/etc, I would wait until Tuesday, then decide. It would be stupid to buy anything from Apple between now and then unless you absolutely can't wait 2 more days.

I just bought a 20gig tonight, but I'm not going to open it until Tuesday when I know what all my options are, this way i can still return it if something more appealing to me is introduced.

I think I'll buy and just wait before opening it. The thing is, even if something new is announced, it'll be 2 months before we're going to see it hitting the shops anyway.

Also, I think Apple would be stark raving mad to reduce the price of the IPod line or to improve it in any way. With the IPod (in the UK at least) being the single most purchased electronics item, there would be soo many pissed people who had just bought it. I know this is Apple and it's almost tradition for them to update lines at the worst of times but this time a lot of PC users and non Apple users (who aren't used to this) would be affected. I think it would be a bad move.

If you're going for the 40 GB iPOd, there's no point waiting. You can't loose w/ that model. Unless Apple makes some significant changes in the current line up or lowers the price. Which i doubt will happen. But you never know...

I guess the only reason to wait is if you're hoping for the cheaper iPods. Which is still theory at this point.

That was my thinking exactly. I decided to wait anyway though. What's two days?

Doesn't Apple have that 7 day price refund if they release new products within 7 days of your purchase?

I'm pretty sure that most of the iPod releases were available quickly (except some of the 3G releases) and some were available at the Apple Store locations on the same day as the announcement.

Now I've decided to wait I hope they do bring something new out. A 60gig version would be great

I would definitely wait. I am very happy with my 40GB that I got a few months ago, but I would wait the extra day if I were getting one now.

By the way, how much would you want for your broken ipod? I might be interested in buying it.

Why would you want to buy it? Not sure how much I'd sell it for. I could get it fixed but there's no point spending $99 if I'm getting a new one. Make me an offer

I want to get a broken ipod to take apart. I would like to see how they are put together, etc. If I get several broken ones I may try to make one good one, but that seems like a long shot. Anyway, I could pay $30 plus shipping. However, after checking ebay, it looks like broken ipods are going for $80+, which is more than I can offer, so you would get more for it selling it there.
