Hi all,

I'm about 6 weeks away from purchasing my new G5 (hopefully a Dual 2.0ghz), but I'm not sure which monitor to buy. I love the looks of the 17" Apple display, but the price is scaring me away (I know, if you're spending $2500 on a computer, why get cheap now, right?) but $700 for a monitor is nothing to sneeze at. I've read good things about Hitachi and Samsung, although they both have so many models to choose from, my teeth hurt just thinking about it. If I buy a monitor other than Apples', do I need a special cable? converter? adapter? The Hitachi I looked at (CML174SXW) had a DVI port, that's for digital interface, right? Is that better than analog? I would guess so, but I don't know squat about these things...any opinions and experiences would be helpful, thanks.

You can connect DVI and VGA displays to Apple's graphics cards.

Do you want to buy an LCD? Seriously, don't save your money on your screen, I did that once, it was horrible.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Do the OEM graphics cards on the G5s support DVI output? I know they do ADC and the machines come with an ADC->VGA adapter. However, do they support DVI out of the box?

I am not in front of my G5 right now, but I do believe the OEM Radeon card on my Dualie has a DVI output.

The OEM card in my Dual G5 has both ADC and DVI outputs.
