Doesn't look like anyone will be able to answer my previous post as to what's goin on with my Canon Lide 30. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel as far as scanning is concerned.

My Lide 30 will work with VueScan but I get funny output from that too ... kind of a purplish background where it should be white .. no matter how much I adjust it.

I also have an older Canon that works kind of okay out of Classic ... but I'm upgrading to Panther so that's the end of that one.

I would really like to find a scanner that works flawlessly in OSX, and that has a good interface. The Canon Toolbox stuff is crazy.

Any suggestions for a mid priced scanner. Do some of the newer Canons have a better interface? thanks for any info. ...

I have a Epson 2450 Photo, basically because it was an offer impossible to resist. 69 Euros …_

For most things, any scanner in the intermediate price range will do it, because:

1. If you scan pictures, those will probably be lab prints that effectively have 2-3 megapixels.

2. If you need to scan a lot of negatives, you will probably buy a negative scanner.

With mine, I can scan negatives at about 3-3.5 megapixels which is fine.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

Have you contacted Ed Hamrick about VueScan? Have you tried the discussion forums he links to? I've used VS for years and am constantly impressed. Give it another try, ther's probably something set wrong in there.
