I have a Canon A70 camera and while I can use it happily with iPhoto I want to be able to grab video clips and photos directly of the camera.
OSX used to "mount" digital cameras as a drive you could browse but since 10.2.8 and later it doesn't seem to allow it.
Most annoying when you just want to grab a video clip and you have to close iPhoto (after it finishes automatically launching) and open some crappy Canon Browser software to get it.
How do I get the A70 or any other camera to appear as a mounted drive????
Anyone got the same problem and hopefully a solution?
Thanks in advance :-)

Just buy a USB card reader. If you only use CompactFlash, just get a really cheap one like a Dazzle. I have an S50 but more often use the Dazzle than plug the camera straight into my iBook. The camera uses a lot of power, the reader, none.

Thanks for your reply, it is appreciated.
I had already thought of the media reader option but IT USED TO WORK by connecting the camera directly!
Plugging the camera in directly works fine for me as I only have the one media card and it is easier than pulling the card out each time.
Why has it changed? I'm pretty sure it was the 10.2.8 update that ended this option. Did Apple axe this feature deliberately thinking that iPhoto would be the only Camera app you'd ever need?
Anyone got a fix?

If you want to get movies off of the A70 plug it in and fire up Image Capture. Click the "Download Some" button and it will give you a panel of pictures stored on the camera's memory. This includes movie files. That's the exact procedure I use for the movies on my SD100 and also works on my girlfriend's Kodak 6230.

Thankyou!!! Image Capture is an excellent solution. All these little apps and utilities in MacOSX that few people use or know about.
I'm stil bemused as to why it doesn't show the camera as a drive anymore but thanks to your advice I'm once again a happy snapper :-)
Cheers

Image Capture is actually a pretty cool little app. You can even share your camera on your network with it. Also notice when you import pictures the transition the pictures use is like a 3D cube spinning where they are the surfaces of the cube. It's a cool little effect.

Ya i have the same camera, and it never really mounted as a drive...anyway, i use Image Capture for videos and some pictures when i don't want to import them all to iPhoto, its certainly cool though, and i love my Powershot A70, but i might just get a card reader due to my batteries being eaten.
