I just noticed something interesting about the iPod's miniplug and the miniplug in the remote.

The miniplug for the headphones has two stripes (left/right ?), while the miniplug for the remote, in addition to the extra data plug, has three stripes.

What is the extra stripe for? Is there data flowing through? I thought the remote data went through the square plug?

anyone know any details??

I suspect its remote is wired to use both the extra connector and the extra ring.
