iPod - Trouble with Playlists

I have a problem with my iPod 3G. For some reason, some playlists show up as blank on the iPod (unmounted) whereas they are shown full when I browse the iPod (mounted) in iTunes. I'm thinking it just needs a "restore," but I want to make sure that my problems aren't from a defective iPod.

Here's a troubled playlist:
Match ALL
Genre is Electronic
Grouping is not Booty
My rating is greater than **
Time is less than 8:00
Live Updating

The playlist problem stems from "Grouping." Took grouping off the playlists and they worked fine. That's kind of stupid how they add a feature to iTunes that is unrecognizable by my iPod. I think it's time for a 2.2 update...
