I have recently purchased a G5 and I am using an Epson Sylus Photo 1200. In classic mode, the Epson monitor is available in the page set up and print modes. In Panther, I can print but I do not have access to the Epson monitor. Therefore I cannot control resolution, type of photo paper being used etc. Epson's site doesn't seem to have a download for Panther for this print monitor. Did I miss something?

Thanks for any help you can offer!javascript:smilie('')

have you installed the additional epson drivers found on 10.3 panther, disc 3?

with my 1270, i didn't have the epson paper options etc. when i first installed panther. turns out, i was just using the GIMP drivers. installed the epson drivers from disc 3, added my printer again, and this time it used the epson drivers.

this may work, although i don't know if the 1200 is one of the included drivers. that printer is kinda old, isn't it? i mean my 1270 is from '99.

I'll have to see about the disks which came with my G5--thank you for the suggestion. Yes, it's OLD by tech standards (4.5 years) and cost $499.00 when I got it back then.

Thanks again!

I didn't know that there were OS X drivers for my Photo EX; I've been using CUPS/GhostScript. Are you using it via USB adapter or Axis 1440 print server?

(Still on Jaguar, btw.)

im probably barking up the wrong tree here
i remember my ex being very similar to the 1200 (either model before or after) so was hoping this might help me a bit
i havent got any osx drivers for the ex either
although mines in jaguar (occasionally panther with ibook G4)
mines connected via usb
i use gimp print
with CUPS/GhostScript can you access the printer functions as you would be able to with a proper driver?

I only got one disk with my G5 so I upgraded Panther to 10.3.2. Problem still there. What pisses me off is that Epson charges $9+ to talk to them on a non-toll-free number if your printer is out of warranty! What exactly is the CUPS/GhostScript mentioned in one of the posts? Will that help me?
Glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem, but how do we get around it?

Thanks for all the posts-

Not Epson tools (cartridge levels, alignment, etc.): I need to use OS 9 for that.

The EX is the model just before the 1200, I believe--discontinued in late 1999.

Here's a link to Gimp-Print ( http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php3 ).

You only need to install GohstScript if your on 10.2 (it's built into 10.3). Basicly Gimp-Print is a set of alternative printer drivers (an open source development for CUPS (Common UNIX Printer System) which is included in 10.2 and later) which support more printers and often with more advanced options than the pretty basic Epson drivers.

And yes, Gimp-Print supports the Stylus Photo EX. ( http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_..._Printers.php3 )

Have you tried the EPSON Printer Utility. Its hidden away in /Library/Printers/EPSON/Utilities. But you should be able to open it by clicking on the Utility button in the toolbar of the Printer Setup Utility (this only works if your using a genuine Epson driver).

YES! It is built into 10.3.2. I just had to reinstall the printer through the printer utility and I got all the options I need when printing. Yes, it doesn't look like the original Epson monitor window, but who cares. THANK YOU everyone for your help. Problem solved!

Hrm I'm having a similar problem with an Epson C40. I installed both the drivers from the Epson website AND the Epson drivers from the OSX cd. Along with the Gimp-Print drivers and no dice, it wont even recognize the printer when its plugged in. It will recognize other Epson printers, do you guys have any ideas whats up?
