I was able to find a few instances of this problem in the past on the forums, but I couldn't find any clear solutions, so I figured I'd ask. I just bought a new eMac, and my Microsoft Intellimouse will randomly shut down all the time. Sometimes, simply unplugging the mouse and plugging it back in fixes the problem, but sometimes, it will shut itself down for good and I'll have to restart the computer. When this happens, plugging in a different mouse is useless: a restart is the only option.

It can't simply be a problem with the USB ports, because when the mouse is plugged into the keyboard, and the mouse fails, the keyboard is still perfectly functional.

Can anyone out there give me a solution to this problem? It's driving me absolutely insane. Thanks a bunch,

Steve

the cable or plug is damaged. i've done a lot of soldering to my original intellimouse to know.

you have a lifetime warranty with your mouse, and can get a replacement. the phone number is on MS's site.

This insanity brought to you by:
