i purchased a external HD enclosure to put a old 2.5 laptop HD in and when i connect it, it will not show on the desktop. the booklet that came with the enclosure states no drivers needed in 10.2 or higher. (i'm on 10.2.3) i've restarted many times and have disconnected and reconnected the drive and all it will do is spin up and i can hear the heads move, and that's it. The only other thing i can think of is that the drive does not have any jumpers. I do not know if that is necessary or not. (i sure as heck dont have any jumpers for a 2.5 laptop dive ) oh yeah, it is a stock apple 6GB HD out of a ibook 300MHZ (fujitsu brand)
any ideas as to what is wrong???
thanks in advance for your help

no, it doesnt show up at all. not even in disk utility. (i even tried it in OS9.2 disk first aid didnt show the drive), and still nothing i found a set of jumpers and tried the drive in the setting for "drive 1" and the drive spun up and i got a green light on the drive case itself (it did that even without the jumpers)but still nothing on the desktop. i also tried the drive set as "cable select" this time the drive spun up but the light on the case was red, and still nothing on the desktop.....i'm thinking it's a bad drive??
i hate to spend the money on a new HD only to find out it is something else, but it looks like i'm going to have to

Could be anything really. All I can tell is that it's getting power and nothing else.

what type of enclosure is it? this may sound stupid but you really have to push those things onto the card. i had one that did the same thing simply because i was weary of putting any force into to. put a little effort into the push and it showed right up. it simply wasn't making a connection.

it is a generic enclosure, it is a USB 2.0 / USB 1.0 compatible, and gets it's power from the usb port. I have it plugged directly into the ibook and not a hub. . i tried reseating the HD onto the connections, unfortunately it still does nothing. oh well, at least it was only $15.00 for the enclosure. maybe someday i'll try a different drive in it....this sucks
