hello. i have a problem. as i was trying to update the songs on my ipod, the apple logo seemed stuck. after a bit, it showed a disk with a magnifying glass icon. i had no idea what it was, so i somehow turned it off. little did i know it was trying to do a diagnostic test - stupid me.
anyways, i read around, ran the HDD scan myself by entering into the diagnostic mode, and it said that the HDD scan Failed.
do i have a big problem? is there anything i can/should do?
any help is much appreciated. thanks.
daniel.

I ran the HDD test on a 3G 15GB iPod, and it failed the test, as well as a brand-new 3G 20GB iPod, but both work just fine otherwise. I wouldn't worry too much about it, I also ran the remote diagnostic test and that failed as well, even though the remote was connected and works.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread. My 30GB iPod has spontaneously put itself into disk scan mode twice now, so I'm a bit worried. Both times it found no problems, but if there's really nothing wrong then it probably wouldn't have looked in the first place.
I found out about the diagnostic mode, so I tried it out. It failed the HDD scan I don't know if this is a problem or not. Have your iPods that failed the test continued to work all these months?
Also, I found out that the remote and key tests are supposed to fail after a certain amount of time, since otherwise you'd never be able to get out of them. So your experience is the expected outcome, at least for those two tests.
