Maybe I'm dense, but I can't seem to find it clearly stated whether or not you can actually watch DVDs from an external FireWire DVD drive. I would think so, but I got the impression they were strictly for read data DVDs, or making archives and backups, etc. *Can* you actually watch DVDs on them? I got my dual 800 without a DVD drive, so it would be cool to be able to finally watch them on here. And burn them, of course.

You can unless you buy one of those corporate dvd players (like the ones Dells come with).

Dells come with external FireWire drives? That's what I meant—not just any internal DVD player. I'm talking external FireWire. You can watch movies from those?

You can. (In Jag, I assume you still can in Panther) I've got an external Lacie firewire DVD-R/RW drive and you can use it to watch DVDs. DVD Player will start up automatically if you plonk in a DVD.
