OK, I need to buy an lcd display to replace an old 19" crt as I just don't have the space for the big crt anymore. I'm thinking 17" would be about the same amount of screen real estate.
However, there seems to be a fair price range, and I was wondering what people like. It will be a secondary display for my 15" powerbook, mainly for using photoshop, when the extra space comes in real handy.
Price is important, would like to stay around $300-350 if possible. Might go higher if it's really warranted. Are some of the cheaper displays really that much worse than the others?
Thanks for your help and advice,
J.

I would do a search on this - it's been covered many times before.
However, Samsung makes some nice LCDs, as does Mitsubishi/Nec. A frequently good source of well-priced LCDs, believe it or not, is Dell. Their monitors are all OEMed from other manufacturers, but are well rated and inexpensive. Their 17" (1703), 19" (1903) and 20" (2001) are all very nice (I've seen all 3 in person). Search the web and you can often find Dell discount coupons, making some of their displays downright cheap.
Apple's displays, of course, even the 17" model, are always a safe bet, though may cost a bit more than you want. And, they are ADC/DVI only...

Thanks for the reply. I'd done a search, but yyou can't specify size in the search field (too short) and I ended up with about a 1000 messages to go through, with every type of display query.
I'll have a look for the Dell's that's a good idea.
Cheers,
J.

I suggest you look at a Samsung.
If you're buying a monitor, don't skimp on quality just to save $100. It's not worth ruining your eyes (or sanity) dealing with a cheap display that's fuzzy or has bad color response or whatever.
