I have a Garmin GPS but it looks like their software and cable both only support pcs! So if I buy their came, and a serial to usb adapter, and download some mac GPS stuff, will it all work? Anyone recommend any specific software? And serial adapter too for that matter? I have many customers who have Palms with Serial port cradles that use these USB adapters to plug into Mac, and they seem to never work right. That makes me a little nervous.

I have hooked up an iBook 466 to a Trimble GPS unit a USB to serial adaptor from Keyspan http://www.keyspan.com/products/usb/USA19W/ with PC software using Virtual PC. I think the software was some topo map software you could use a GPS unit with. It has been awhile since I accomplished this feat. I was using OS 9 at the time an I think I was using VPC5, but maybe 4. I have half-heartedly tried again with a PowerBook and Mac OS X using VPC 6, but I didn't get very far. I don't remember exactly what my issue was, but I didn't pursuit it.
I am curious as to what you do. I work for an environmental consutling firm up the street from you in Groton, MA and I run the GIS/GPS aspect of it. We are mostly a Mac Office, but I have given up on trying to incorporate GIS into our Mac environment and have gone with a dedicated PC to run ArcView. Currently I am interfacing with that same Trimble unit on an iPaq 3650 running ArcPad 5.

Hi,
I'm not sure about Garman, but I do know that DeLorme use to produce software and a GPS for the Mac. It's only compatible with OS9 and they refuse to update it any more.
There is a new Mapping program that works with OSX and a certain compatible GPS unit.
It's called Route USA and it is suppose to be compatible with Garmin GPS units. I haven't purchased it yet since the DeLorme still works fine. I suppose I should switch since Street Atlas is over 5 years old.

Actually I'm saving up for a Kenwood indash nav unit for the Blazer, but I'm thinking the cheap little handheld, in the back of my backpack, to fill my MTB web site with the most comprehensive trail stats of any site. Granted there are only like 4 sites that are about these woods, but still mine's the best.
