Just got a LaCie 160gb External FW Drive Bootable under Panther and would like to leave it on 1am to 6am for nightly backups. This is my first FW drive and was wondering if they are made to be left on all the time or you should shut them off....and advise based on expericence would be welcome.

I don't have a LaCie, but leave my FW drives on 24/7 without problems.

Yeah I leave my FireWire drive on all the time but I allow the system to spin my drive down when it feels it's necessary.

Ditto, external FW drive, 7200RPM, no case fan, has run 24/7 for nearly 18 months. No probs.
