Hi all,

I have a Harman Kardon Soundstick connected via USB hub to my AlG4 Powerbook OS 10.3.2 The audio disappear on and off while the machine is on usage or on idle. Audio only work if I toggle to Internal speakers. I doubt it is the problem with the USB hub, because my Wacom which is connect to the same hub work. So far, the only way to get the audio back to the Soundstick is to restart the machine.

This problem didn't exist when I was using my Pismo 400 Mhz, when I'm running OS 10.2.8

Anyone else experienced this?

yes, this is a known problem and seems to crop up from time to time. When they first released the soundsticks for OS9.1 to 9.2, it really sucked.

The sound usually goes off when the screen is timed to turn off (not neccessarily when the computer goes to sleep). There is no solution that I know of except to unplug it from the hub, and replug it, or restart.

Btw, some other weird issues that I've noticed with my 1.25Ghz 15" Al PB is that sometimes the keyboard backlight fails to respond when my lamp is on the keyboard, does this also happen to you?

And the crazy thing that drives me insane is that if you start up in single user mode (pressing the Apple key and s together at the same time at startup and run "fsck -f" to check the file system, it comes up with "Warning IO Platform Monitor not found". If you get the chance try this and see if you find it also.

hey,

thanks for the reply, so now i know it is not the fault of the usb hub or the OS, it is the sound stick.

I don't use my backlight alot, but I tried it with two lights in my room, I realise that it is not extremely sensitive in picking up the different between dim /bright lights... hee alittle silly. I have to turn off all the lights b4 the backlight gets turn on.

as for the single user mode thingy, I get the same message. But i really don't have a clue what it imply actually.

thanks for your info, once again.

No, thank you!!

Think I might create a new post regarding IOPlatform Monitor not found. Drives me crazy.

I'm thinkin what happened to the platform monitor? Is this why I can't adjust the Keyboard backlit at time (I swear sometime its just stuck, like it's out to lunch and closed shop...), or is the reason that I lose sound from my Soundsticks? Then, I realize, what the f*ck is the IO Platform Monitor!?! Jeez, so good to see that I am not alone.

Muchos Gracias,
Echo

After going thru the forum, I took an advise and connected the soundstick usb directly to the machine, instead of the hub. It has solved the problem. Weeee!!
