I'm interested to get Soundsticks II but somehow the information on this baby is not on Harman-Multimedia's website. Is it available now? Should i wait for it or just get the original Soundsticks.

Yea, i read that the new sticks now supports analog connection but does that mean that they abandon USB connection for the sticks completely?
USB vs. Analog? which is better?

I have a set of the old Soundsticks (great speakers!) and was actually about to put some money towards another set as a birthday present for my sister who's just started uni with a new 12-inch PowerBook, but then Harman/Kardon announced the Soundsticks II at MacWorld...
So, i thought it would be better to buy the new ones rather than the old - but can i find them anywhere? Nope! (they don't even seem to exist on the Harman/Kardon website yet).
I do remember reading this link at MacNN:
http://www.macnn.com/news/22788
And here's the press release:
http://www.businesswire.com/cgi-bin/...0604/240065199
If you compare the info from the URLs above with that on the H/K website (still gives tech details on the old Soundsticks) - it should illuminate the main differences between the two sets.
If anyone knows when they are supposed to be available, i'd also like to know, especially regarding UK availability (i've checked all the usual suspects, they only have the originals).

I e-mailed Harman Kardon's support people and they said that the new Soundsticks would be available for purchase Mid-February and at that time, the product page would be updated.
I'm looking forward to them too!

Thanks for the info, iDrive - hopefully mid-February is a worldwide availability date!
I think I'll wait till then and get the new ones for my sister - it's not like anywhere has reduced the price of the current set in anticipation of the new…

I have the original SoundSticks and I love them, but the new ones have one main advantage for me, I can use them with my Gamecube!, that will be nice.
I have yet tested the Gamecube with the SoundSticks via Televio/Alchemy TV under Jag and Panther, sounds really nice, so figure with the SoundSticks II.

According to the faq, creature II is identical to creature I, except that the colors are different. Lame, and hardly worthy of a new product designation.

They also used different materials, which allowed them to lower the price due to less cost on their end.

Too bad the sound quality of the Creature system isn't improved, though the blurb MacCentral put out made it sound that way:
"JBL Creature II, which incorporates the latest Odyssey transducer technology and a proprietary design."

Key point from this web page:
What is the Difference between the Creature and Creature II speakers?
The Creature II White has green downfiring LED's instead of the blue on the original Creatures White.
The Creature II comes in gray. The silver metallic Creatures are no longer produced.
The new manufacturing process and material changes, enables the lower price point for the Creature II speakers.
The performance of Creature II is the same as the original Creature.

So....where the hell are the new SoundSticks? The press release states they should be availible online, but the Harman-Kardon site only lists the old USB-speakers (which I have, but the sub is slowly dying).
It's been a month already

Also curious to see if they are still dual voltage. They are one of the few types of speakers that were dual voltage. I'll be moving back on forth from the US to Europe probably the rest of my life.
So I'll always have a powerbook and I'm hoping they are NOT usb (I don't wanna hook up a hub). Firewire would be better for me.
Anyone know if they are dual voltage and what connector it uses (one reference to the standard 3.5 jack) can anyone confirm?

Nix the SoundSticks idea and get some Cambridge Soundworks stuff -- they have dual voltage gear (for example, some of their speakers have internal 120V power, plus a 12V DC jack that can be used with a 230V AC adapter).

Thanks for the scoop! These will do nicely if they are dual voltage. $100 cheaper than SSs. Waiting for an email response.
