Hello

I just bought an external drive, a Maxtor OneTouch 250 GB harddisk with USB as well as FireWire connection.

I connect it with the FireWire cable, it powers up, the powerlight is on and it doesn't mount. Using Disk Utility I can see, that the partition is a Windows FAT 32 Partition that is not active.

Trying to make it active does nothing.

I have also tried to delete the partition and make a new partition. That won't work either. Nothing happens. Disk utility doesn't get anywhere.

It came with Retrospect Express that I have installed and if I press the "OneButton", it starts Retrospect.

In System Profiler I can see it is attached.

So there is a connection between my PB G3 500 (512MB/60GB) and the Maxtor thingie ... I just can't use it.

What am I missing here?

Peter

Whoops ... I guess I should mention that my Powerbook has Jaguar as well as 9.2.2

I haven't seen a format option anywhere ... where should I look?

In Disk Utility, there's an Erase tab (this is in Panther, but Jaguar should be similar). You can also partition the disk if you like, but otherwise just use the default setup.

Now I really feel stupid ... I tyried with a USB cable. And that worked. Then I tried with the Firewire Cable, and that still didn't work. Then I tried with another Fiewwire cable, and that worked. So I guess i was simply a victim og a bad cable (despite it was brand new and out of the box).
I'm running, all is fine.
