I'm wanting to build a small, portable, mirrored RAID for critical data (yes, I know, "critical" and "portable" don't typically go together in the same sentence...).

I thinking about buying two 2.5" 7200rpm 60GB notebook drives, putting each in to a small pocket/portable case, and daisy chaining the two together. Speed is desirable but not super critical (since they'll be driven off a single FW channel); data integrity is.

Would a single FireWire 400 port provide enough power for both drives, or would I be stuck using an external power brick connected to one of the drives?

Anyone tried powering two drives off one FW 400 channel?

Yeah I'm doing it right now, got 2x30GB Smartdisk FireLite drives (FW400) plugged into my iBook, even made a tiny 3inch firwire cable to run between the two, instead of having a 2 foot long cable bunched up on my desk.
