I am considering getting an iPod and hearing about possible battery problems and stuff, what is consensus opinion on Applecare for iPod? Worth the money, taking into account the fact that I am in Europe and by law we have a 2-year warranty anyway?

What are the details of your warrantee plus Applecare where you are?
If its a year of coverage for around 50$US (making your total three years), I'd say go for it. The battery is supposed to die in 18 months, so if you rode it hard, you could theoretically get two battery replacements.
Not to mention the other delicate things that could flake on you over three years.

AppleCare for iPod is around €70, more than $85. This would be more or less for the third year only, since normal problems or failures are covered by consumer laws for two years, and the battery should be included there as well.
That amount for one more year coverage... Guess I have to sleep over that decision some more.

AppleCare can be purchased at any time before the original warranty expires; you don't have to purchase it at the same time you buy the iPod.
That being said, I'm not sure if /how that works with an automatic European 2-year warranty...

HoHoHo! Applecare for iPod is less appealing, it covers only up to TWO years from the original purchase date!

Just bought my iPod this past Wednesday and stayed away from the AppleCare. Thought about it for a second, but then realized that if i dropped it, it wouldn't be covered...and if the battery died, it would cost $99 anyway. I figure i'll wait until the end of the first year of coverage, then decide based upon how much wear & tear i've given it.
