external drive won't mount

My external drive doesn't mount when I plug it in. I need to restart the computer. Any idea why?

Hardware description:

iBook G4 w/ 10.3.2
AcomData 60GB USB 2.0 / FW drive

Do you have anything else plugged in, such as USB devices, Ethernet network? If so, unplug them to see if this helps. I've had the same problem with my iMac and Firewire drives.
