I was under the impression that the card reader was only suppose to allow straight from card to print.

Nope. It's suppose to function just like a USB card reader.... the card SHOULD show up on your desktop, and you can drag and drop the images to your HD, stuff like that. IT works exactly like that in OS9...but in X... NOPE. Jerks.

You are absolutely correct. The card reader is suppose to interface with OS X. I know I use to represent HP product lines. And yes their drivers are full of bugs and in some cases incomplete.

I have an Epson (Stylus Photo 785EPX)and it does not allow transfer of files to OS X, I think it might have said it in the manual as well.
I previously had an HP Photosmart 1000, and it definately didn't work like that.

Your HP may not have worked like that but I guarantee you it was suppose to. That was one of the selling points of the printer.

I don't have the software or the printer anymore, and to be honest, I may be confusing that printer with the Epson, but I seem to remember it saying it wouldn't work. Woulda been nice if it did work, though

Just thought of something, I seem to remember seeing a CF card icon in the finder, not the desktop when I placed one in the HP, try opening a new finder window, then clicking the 'computer' tab at the top when you have a card inserted.

My little HP 245 works as a card reader in OS X 10.3
I didn't even have to install anything at all. Just plugged the printer in to the USB port, inserted an MMC card from my phone, and there it was on the desktop.

Is it possible that any problems are down to how the memory card is formatted?
The worst thing about having a failing memory is..... no, it's gone.
