Well, my parents are having trouble with their scanner. Epson apparently doesn't have drivers for this scanner and Vuescan refuses to work correctly. When I start Vuescan with the scanner on, it just sits at the splashscreen and beachballs. If I start it up without the scanner on, it goes right into the program. The problem is that, once in the program, I can't get it to see the scanner without having it on when starting the program-it's the chicken and the egg cycle. I've tried switching around the usb cable from the keyboard to the iMac (direct connection) and things like that, but nothing seems to be working... any ideas, software, and the like?

I have a 636U - and just recently upgraded the rig to an eMac running Panther from a bondi iMac running 9.2.2.

In Panther, you can use the Image Capture application to scan from the 636U - it works without any special drivers, although the functionality is somewhat simplified and limited. That's the only way I've been able to get it to work - but that's adequate for my needs. Good luck.

Ah sah... should've thought of that... I'll give it a shot!! Thanks!

EDIT:
Hmm... keeps telling me that it can't find an image capture device even though it's listed in the Profiler. I'll try a restart and see what happens.

EDIT 2:

OK... it works on my parents account, but not my brothers. He's not admin, but I gave him access to image capture. Still says it can't find a device, but if I quick switch to my parents acount, it'll come right up. Any ideas?
