I was moving a file from one computer to another today and I plugged my iPod into this old 450 (or something) tower not knowing that the top firewire port was shot. I plugged my iPod into it and it is now stuck on this:

So i did the normal procedure. I held down the play and menu to reset it and it always goes back to the folder. I then took it home and plugged it into the computer and attempted a full restore (I.E. using the software updater to wipe and reinstall the software on the iPod but it wouldn't recognize that the iPod was plugged in. I just noticed that after being plugged in for a few hours now my iPod is warm as though the battery is charging or something.

Does anybody have any ideas on fixing this before I take it down to the apple store and am (no doubt) charged a pretty penny to replace/fix this thing? (It's a 30 gig so it's probably out of warranty).

what sound is it making? is it just sitting there whirring? i had a similar problem with my 40gb and found that i had to let the battery totally drain before i could get back into the gui.

there is some restart you can do with the next and previous buttons too. i dont know it offhand, but a quick look through my bookmarks and i came up with this link.

you might try a google for "iPod restart" or something.

good luck man.

Are you sure it is out of warranty? I had a 2G 20gig go bad on me a few months ago and it was still under warranty so I just sent it back and they sent me a new (or refurbished) one.

I had the same problems you are reporting. I tried all the resets and the software restore, but the iPod never showed up in the software restore app. I think I even tried to run disk utility on it.

Anyway, check your receipt, if it is less than a year old, you are good to go!
