The mini certainly has a different backlight color - more bluish comared to my 30Gb 3G iPod, which is definitely more yellow. The mini might be a little brighter, but not much. I have a picture to share, but the insert image link isn't working, and I'm not allowed to post attachments - do I need a higher status for that?

here's a link to my NikonNet album; please note this has limited traffic (around 400 users) per day:
http://home1.nikonnet.com/servlet/co...HO=memberguest

the photo of the iPods in the dark is the third image in the album, and was shot in my house, (it's not web images put together). Choose "view slideshow" and "original size" to see large image.

okay thats really confusing. try going to www.photobucket.com and signing up and hosting images there. its free.

once you get the url of the image you want to include in a thread. do this [img]url...[/img.] (no period after /img in the bracket there, its just that the damn thing was looking for a url before that.)

if you ever get really confused at how someone did something with their post, hit reply and look at the code of what they did. works most of the time.

id really love to see what you have there, but i cant get through that damn site.

later.
Dan.

There are no buttons, per se. And because the device is operated with just one control, I don't think there is a need to light the controls. With the 3G iPod, you really need to light the buttons in order to find them. That need doesn't exist on the mini.

My 30Gb 3G iPod was getting just about 8 hours when I checked a few weeks ago - that was running continuously, no track switching, and no backlight. No chance to test the mini yet, but Walt Mossberg in his Wall Street Journal "Mossberg Solution" last week said:

"Apple is claiming a battery life of eight hours for the Mini. To test this claim, Katie and I ran three battery tests. In one, the results were just shy of Apple's claim, at seven hours and 46 minutes. But in the other two tests, with two different iPods, the Mini lasted nine hours and 15 minutes, and a whopping 10 hours and 40 minutes. That indicates to me that an average Mini would likely exceed Apple's eight-hour claim."

He's a fair and impartial reviewer, as far as I can tell.
