hi gang,

i was at the apple store in soho and there was a line three blocks long waiting to buy a mini. they were passing out cards or vouchers i guess and if you didn't have one then you weren't going to get one.

so i got to j and r at 6 pm and they had about a dozen that were not spoken for. the rest were preorders and waiting to be picked up. so i picked up a silver one since that's all they had.

so it seems like the initial run of mini's will be sold out and the j and r rep said they won't be gettting anymore for at least a month.

most popular color according to j and r is pink.

it's apparent this will be a runaway success and as the 6gb, 8gb and 10gb mini's come and the price falls below the $200 mark apple will secure even more marketshare...

that's my mini story.

chung lee

ps. this was a valentine's day present for my wife and i wanted a pink one but she will have to do with the silver.

thanks for the info.

great news. i bet you are correct. the public is wisely comparing the size, capicity, and price of the mini to the flash level players instead of HD players.

PS i went to best buy and say a arcos? and a samsung.

Thank god for apple, ipod, itunes, and the itunes music store.

Here's a shoddy movie from the soho line. Hopefully some better ones will show up. It seemed a lot of people where walking the line taking video.

It really pisses me off that Apple decides we have to stand in line and hopefully get one if they are not sold out first. I went to Best Buy and picked one up. They had a case full without any starting time of 6:00PM.

I can understand if you don't want to stand in line but for what it's worth, if you were in line you got a card that promised you a mini of that color. Presumably they didn't hand out more cards then they had units. In fact some (many?) people took multiple cards so they could decide which color they wanted at the last minute. If they were considerate they handed back in their unused ones.

The line was essentially the line for the cash register and they seemed to want to limit it do about 30 or forty people in line inside the store at once. Otherwise it would have been insane.

Nice pictures, thanks.

Hi oogje,

I understand what you are saying. It probably was fun in SoHo too. But I had no line at Best Buy and was able to go when I wanted. Apple just wanted to create hype for the thing so they could sell more which is cool.

True, to a point, the hype is fun. And sometimes you just want to buy something and use it. It's good now there's more of a choice of stores for some of this stuff.

hi folks,

my wife opened her gift and is playing with it. she's not a gadget person at all but she was very impressed by it.

matter of fact, i can't believe how nice it really is. i think it's a fantastic little machine.

if i didn't already have two regular ipods i would get one for myself.

it grows on you very quickly.

i wouldn't be at all surprised if the next gen ipods were bigger versions of the mini if it were i wouldn't mind one bit, as long as they had an white version

for all the people who said it was too expensive. the worst selling ipod is the 40gb which had the best price per storage ratio and the best selling were the 10gb ipods which had the worse price for storage ratio and i bet the minis will outsell all of them combined.

soho rocks but soho house rocks even more : )

best regards,

chung
