Hi. I m new to dealing with sound issues so please bear with me. My friend just purchased a G5 and wants surround sound. We will probably go with the Logitech Z-680. My question is do we need any type of Preamp or amp, or does the G5 have sufficient power to drive the speakers?

Also, should we go with the Logitech Z-680s or should we go with the JBL Encounter 5.1 Speaker System?

You should go to CompUSA or Best Buy or somewhere and look at them. They are self powered and HUGE!!! The optical cable will work best and power them no problem. Well actually the G5 does not power them, just sends the data over. The power plug will power them

Is it too much to ask that someone makes a set of 5.1 speakers for the G5 that aren't fugly? Man, looking at the logitechs and klipsch... you'd hafta hide 'em. Yech.
Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
