So I have a 20 GB iPod, but only 19 GB seems to be accessible...I'm currently using up 18.55 GB, and it says only 44.4 MB are left. I'm not using the iPod for anything except mp3s. Is there any way to free up more of that extra space?

You iPod is 20GB where 1K = 1,000
The computer calculates the space as 1K = 1,024
So there's always going to appear to be "less" formatted space on a device. This is normal. If you need more room, you need a bigger iPod
However, mount the iPod on your desktop and take a look inside some of the folders there... you may have some data files you've forgotten about.

no offense to the original poster, but I can't believe someone is still asking question about actual storage, this has been the case ever since hard drive existents.
Someone even bought up a class action.

I was trying to ask if there was anything I could do to max out the space on the iPod, like deleting calendars or something along those lines, but whatever. Since my dad wants an iPod, I'm going to try to trick my him into taking my 20GB and having him buy me a 40GB.

I doubt it would save you much space because the calendar file, even if you never sync it with ical, was preinstalled.
20 gb drive should give you like 18+GB actual storage, if you suspect something is wrong with your ipod, you should use disk utility to check it.
