I'm just starting to record DVD's on my 1GHz tibook. OK here goes..using Toast 5.3
1. my first attempt resulted in a "hardware error" message after 40 minutes of recording. Does this mean there is frequent bad discs as for CD's? (Used a Maxwell DVDR-
2. Second attempt on new disc worked. Recorded various iMovies. I can't open them in iMovie from the DVD. Is this because iMovie "sees" it's a DVD and it isn't fast enough to run? I copied from the DVD back to a HD and it worked fine.
3. I tried to copy to a Maxwell DVD R/W- and it keeps getting ejected with a "please insert a recordable disc. What gives, another bad disc?
Finally, if/when I can record to a DVD R/W, can I later update a single folder on the disc or do I have to erase/rewrite the entire disc.
Thanks! Best...Peter

A few questions:
1) Are you trying to use iDVD? If so, it will not record to RW media.
2) What kind of Mac do you have, and how much hard drive space do you have?
Cheers
Scott
Edit: Also, are you trying to burn data DVDs or movies?

Hi- I'm not using iDVD, just trying to burn data with Toast, which doesn't create a mirror on HD first but burns directly to the disc, I think! Anyway, just tried to burn a disc of photos, (I'm a pro digital photographer) and again a disc crapped out, another seems to be ok.
Maybe there is a more reliable DVD disc maker? Thanks....Peter

You might try Sizzle. I use Toast Titanium, which is excellent. You might also slow down the burn speed, since that's usually what causes these errors.
