Ummm... I didn't follow the news closely when it happened, so I am now totally confused

I saw some 4x DVD-R media stating it might damage your drive if the firmware is not updated... now can someone tell me exactly which DVD burner drive need to update the firmware to avoid damage?

I have a PowerBook G4 with a SuperDrive, do I have to update the firmware. If I use the 4X DVD-R media (which my drive can only burn at 1X), can I use it without damge??

Surely, the DVD burner manufacturers can make people's life a bit easier after the DVD+/-R/W/RAM woes...

It only affects 2X Pioneer desktop drives which haven't had a firmware update.

Your PowerBook will be fine. It runs a Panasonic drive.
