Ipod's Hitachi Microdrive is $450+ right?

So why is everybody complaining about the $250 pricetag?

you get the tiny microdrive packaged inside an iPod. for 50 bucks less than a normal iPod.

you should not be complaing about the 11 gb difference because the difference in size is what matters. if the size doesn't matter — get a normal iPod.

why is everybody so clueless about this fact?

(i think i might get the mini, i have an ipod (battery just went out) and the mini just seems perfect for strapping onto my arm and running. or atleast right into my pocket without feeling i have an extra wallet in there)

Yeah, I really don't understand the pricing. The bare drive costs almost twice as much as the iPod mini. Even the Toshiba hard drive in the originally iPod was equally priced to the iPod. Still not a great price, but not as absurd as the Hitachi CF drive pricing.

obviously as with all products — $450+ is inflated and Apple buys it at a much lower factory price. but what can that factory price be?

$300?
$250?
$200?
$150?

i wish the mini cost $99 flat but as it is, it doesn't seem so bad paying $230 (i can get the edu price )

True, but when Apple orders 200,000 of these drives at once you get a discount.

Same is true for the Toshiba drives in the original iPod, but those bare drives didn't cost $700. They cost the same as the iPod.
