Hi, I got an iPod two weeks ago and it scratches so easily. I don't have a cover for it so already its wrecked! I saw on pdagadgets.co.uk that you can get a screen cover, but that doesn't stop the plastic and the metal from getting scratched.
I don't want to pay $35 for a cover cos they are a rip off, anywhere where i can get one cheaply and one that doesn't require you to take the ipod out everytime you change a song (ie the controls must be accessable)?
Can the scratches on the metal on the back be removed with correct cleaning?

AFAIK, no. You're screwed.
If it's any consolation, so is almost everyone else. They scratch really easily. Even the Apple logo tag inside the carrying case will scratch it. Mine at a year and a half old looks really banged up
You can use a case like the iSkins. My SO has one (hot pink) and it has kept hers relatively scratch free, but she literally didn't touch her iPod until she got it.
Buried in the fourms is a thread which gives a recommendation for something to get light scratches off of the screen only. I think it's "Bar Keepers Friend" but I could be way wrong on this. Do a search.
P.S. The clip on the Apple case is a flimsy piece of ****. Your iPod will kiss concrete after about 10 minutes of vigorous walking.
P.P.S. Don't let my whining get you down. everything else about the iPod is off the hook. I'm not exaggerating when I say it will change your life. Enjoy!

You can take light scratches off your iPod using Brasso. It works both on the plastic and metal parts of the iPod.

There's also a product called ice cream that does some wonders for the iPod, except that it requires a little elbow grease, and lots of patience. You could check out www.ipodlounge.com for some more tips on getting rid of scratches.

I read that brushing the iPod with toothpaste works, but believe me it doesn't... So I'll definitely be trying this Brasso ASAP.
