where can i find some good deals on hard drives... Right now i'm considering the Lacie D2 160 GB FW400 and 800 drives at 185 and 220 respectively... So that gives you about my price range and i don't want anything less than 160 GB with FW400 min... I'm really mad DealNN is down because i'm sure there would be a couple i could check out but right now i'm counting on the community for help... thanks in advance to anyone with advice...

you can always find good deals on the drives themselves...check dealmac.com daily - there is always something there. then look on a few sites (ebay even...) for a firewire enclosure and put the drive in....always cheaper than buying "pre-packaged."

Go to NewEgg.com and buy a Firewire enclosure for about $40. This is a good one.

Then look for a deal on a hard drive. NewEgg has 'em of course, but you might even check places like OfficeMax and Staples for deals. A lot of times you can get them for REALLY cheap after rebates. Check DealMac of course... and if you really want it now and don't want to wait for an awesome deal to surface, NewEgg has pretty good prices. A 160 GB hard drive with 8 MB buffer is $113 there. Total cost - $153. Sure, it won't look quite as awesome as the LaCie D2, but you have to decide whether the nice-looking enclosure is worth the $30 extra.

I've noticed that LaCie and other companies have gotten more competitive with the prices on their external hard drives. I remember a while back I got an 80 GB hard drive for about $70 and an enclosure for $40, while every external 80 GB hard drive was either $180 or $200. Things have certainly changed, and you might actually want to get the LaCie for the extra style and slightly reduced hassle.

Look in the ads this morning. The deals are amazing. If you live near a Circuit City, you can get a 250 GB Western Digital for $140!!! A 120GB Western Digital for $60. CompUSA has 160GB Seagates for $80 and 250GB Maxtors for $200.
It's just an ordinary day and it's all your
state of mind, at the end of the day, you
just gotta say it's alright!
