I know the topic of using one ipod, with two computers has been covered again and again. I think, however, the new iPod mini confuses the problem for many of us. I have two iPods, two macs and over 30GB of music. For my mini, I use five smart playlists to grab the exact 4GB of music I want from my 30GB collection. I also use ratings and play counts extensively. I have that 30GB collection on *BOTH* macs. One is a desktop at work, the other a laptop at home.
Here's the problem: My desktop has a better internet connection so I typically buy songs on that computer. I typically import CDs on my laptop. I want to be able to automatically update my mini from *BOTH* macs. That way, my five smart playlists, ratings and play counts will be synced and up to date across the two macs and my ipod. So if I listen to a song at home and rate it four stars, sync it with my mini, then sync my mini with my work computer it will show up as recently played and four stars. From there, my smart playlists will know weather or not I want it to be included on my precious mini's 4GB.

I know I can select manual update. The problem is that it will not update my ratings and play counts. Also, I cant use the smart playlists the way I want to. When iTunes auto syncs, it deletes songs which are no longer in a given playlist. When you drag the playlist, it just adds songs. For example, if the playlist were limited to 500 songs never played before, auto syncing will get rid of all songs which have been played, and fill in all new songs which have not been played up to 500 songs. Dragging that same playlist over will not delete any played songs, only add new songs until 500 songs.
Any ideas on what to do? Any app that does just this?
Thanks
PS. Sorry for the long post.
