I'm thinking of buying an iPod (at last) but am now pondering waiting for the next bump. I love the design of the new mini, but think it's priced too high compared to the regular. My main problem with the regular one, is that I hate the white color and styling. I'm thinking that the next round of iPods will probably feature either a lower priced Mini, or a Mini with a larger HD. Either would be great. Also, I'm wondering if Apple might redesign the iPod to make it look more like the Mini and G5. That would definitally make me want it more.

Anyway, enough about that, my real question is this... when do you guys think Apple is going to upgrade the iPods? What timetable have the been following so far? Do you think it's possible that something might happen by this summer?

since they just bumped the low end to 15 gig in january who knows. it might be 6 months it might be next week. i bet the next ipod won't be a huge change (like into an all new video player or whatever some people suspect for the complete redesign), but something like a refinement and hopefully going to an ipod mini style wheel with the buttons integrated underneath. I -love- the mini's button config.

I wouldn't expect an update of any significance until at least the summer. The mini is just making its way onto store shelves and is apparently selling great. If Apple did anything to the regular iPods now, it would steal all the mini's thunder.
I agree that the next iPod update will likely include the design refinements introduced in the mini, but it will be at least a few months.

I guarentee that when HP releases there rebranded and cheaper iPod, apple will have a newly redesigned one. So as that they can justify their higher price. HP only has an agreement with the 3G ipod, not the 4G. This is the only way Apple can make sales without competeing with itself, making the cheaper HP ipod.
