When I was using my iPod in gym yesterday, it suddenly freezed without any music being played. I tried to switch it off but failed as all the keys freezed...

After some minutes, I tried to have a look at it, and felt that the iPod was quite hot (like when one is transferring music/data)...By the time all these happened, there were still 3/4 battery

And some hours later, when I tried to use my iPod again, I saw it ran out of battery...

What kind of problem I had encountered?
What should I do?
What can I do if I have similar problems again?

The iPod is a 5G first generation, already out of AppleCare.

Million thanks.

I get this all the time but I have never let the battery run out. What you need to do is reboot. Connect the firewire cable to a wall outlet (not your computer), turn the hold switch off, press the menu and pause/play buttons simultaneously and hold them. With any luck, your pod will reboot. If you are out of luck, it won't draw power when it is frozen and therefore won't have the power to reboot since your battery is flat.

Next time perform the procedure before the battery goes flat. And try not to jog it so much when you run. Remember, it holds about 20 minutes of music in the RAM. After that, it needs to spin up the hard drive. That's when it usually crashes when it is being actively jogged.

I consider this a design flaw. Apple should double the amount of ram. 20 minutes is a very short run!

That means I should have it in my hands when I jog instead of leaving it on the rests of the treadmill.....

Hmm....and agree for 20Mb being too little....

and trillion thanks for your advice.
