I recently purchased a new Epson all-in-one printer/scanner model CX6400.

The printer works great and so does the scanning BUT...

If I or someone else on my system users fast user switching and then decides to use the scanner under their account, Mac OS X freezes completely. If you power down the printer down, you get a kernel panic and have to restart.

Basically, printing works fine under all accounts, even when doing fast user switching.

Scanning works fine unless you "fast" switch to another user. Then you get some type of error about the scanner being already in use and then it freezes.

iBook G4 933
640MB RAM
Mac OS X 10.3.2

If anyone can help or has any idea why it is doing this, I would be thankful.

Mike

EDIT: I forgot to note that I have already uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers multiple time. I have also trashed preferences for the printer. And still no go.

Ya, i have the epson cx5400 and I have similar problems. I get an error message that pops up and wont go away unless u log off and back on. I also can't scan if 2 users are on. I forget if i can even print with 2 users on. I have a quicksilver g4 733mhz with plenty of ram and all. I have reinstalled drivers and what not. I just think its a bug with 10.3.2, hopefully they will fix it with 10.3.3

If you find a soulution please let me know.

I just got a the CX5400, and when my wife switches to her account (and not logging me off) we get the error "Scanner Could Not Be Started", so i'm going to call epson on Monday and see what they say is the fix. I guess for right now, the fix is not to use FUS.

I was climbing around in the Epson files for something resembling Smart Panel on a Panther using the CX3200 all-in-one. One Epson .pdf file consisted of a bunch of tech notes. One mentioned that Fast User Switching is not supported by the Epson software using OS X. I took this to mean that the Epson software will work as long as you don't change users while it is running.

I think I searched Epson support for "Smart Panel OS X" and the .pdf came up. Good luck. So far I have lots of patches and Copy Panel works in Panther, but I have not located the Smart Panel program that the Panther patches are supposed to update (the CD only has an OS 9 version on my -free- CX3200).

If you need more, reply here and I will give you a better idea of how to get the tech notes on this topic. I obviously haven't found them all.
