I just installed a new (white) Airport with modem buil-in. I have a Dual G5 and a G4 Ti Powerbook in my home wireless network. Can I send a FAX via the modem in the Airport?

Thanx! Bernard

nope, the wireless part of the airport doesn't work with faxes. As an alternative (not free, but relatively inexpensive) take a look at maxemail.com

Airport is NOT a remote modem, as far as the computer is concerned -- the computer sees only that it is being given an internet connection from the base station.

You can use Mac OS X Panther to do network faxing, provided that you have one Mac with a built-in modem.

tooki,

Will this scenario work: I have my G5 with modem. I have TiPB downstairs. I connect the G5 and TiPB together wirelessly using Airport (ie, connect to server). Can I send Fax from TiPB thru Airport to G5 and then thru modem connection on G5?

Thanks for the help....I am easily confused...

Yep.

First be sure BOTH Macs are running Panther.

On the G5, set up faxing. The easiest way is to go to any program that can print, choose Print, and then in the print dialog, press the Fax button, which will automatically set up faxing.

Then, once that's done, go to the G5's System Preferences and click the Sharing pane. Then turn on printer sharing.

On the TiBook, the G5's fax will automatically show up.

A question -- do you have to set up anything in the PB -- in other words, if you're getting ready to fax from a PB, can you just hit the "fax" button there and it automatically switches, via AEBS, to the desktop's fax modem? I'm trying to set this up with a desktop and a PB, linked via AEBS. I'm faxing quite successfully via the desktop, but am having difficulties with the powerbook. And should printer sharing be turned on ONLY on the desktop machine? (I'm running Panther on both.)

Thank you.

It should just show up as an available printer on the PowerBook.
