Finally. I've been waiting for them to release some phones better than the T61Xs. When do they ship?

Mid to end of the year.
What is wrong with the T61x?

Nothing horrible. I've heard of some reception and battery issues, but they don't seem to be universal. It's also just nice to have something fresh from Sony Ericsson. It seems like the T61Xs have been their top models for a really long time.

I dig the T637 the most. I really like the T61x style, and the T637 seems to be a related to it. And by the time they ship, I'll be more than ready to upgrade my T68i.

All nice phones, I'll probably be having the K700 as an upgrade from my T610 when August comes around. But they're confusing the model range, until today it was the T-series for brick phones, Z-series for flip phones and P-series for big screen smartphones, now they have the S-series big screen camera phone and the K-series, which as I see it is the next evolution of the T61x. Oh for those simple bygone days, when phones were for talking to people... .

I'll second that. I like the T637 lines and I'm definitely getting ready to upgrade my phone. I've run into too many instances where I wanted a camera in my phone and not had one (like when the rich-bitch woman got her Escalade stuck in the entrance to the parking garage b/c she didn't heed the 'No higher than X feet' sign).

I haven't heard of any problems like that. The t68i did have a low reception though.

That seems to be the biggest trouble I have with my phone - I'll have some trouble getting a signal. But if I get a signal, my reception is great. And my battery life has also been great. I'm still able to go about a week between charging the phone.
Still, I'm liking the design of those phones. I also like how they feature Apple's apps so prominently.

This is sadly true. Mine is a bitch when it comes to reception. I get virtually none in my apartment, but my girlfriend (with the same service) has full signal on her Nokia. It miffs me somethin' awful because I love the T68i for everything but reception.

It's time to upgrade for me. I am still using the Nokia 8290 (T-mobile) since 2001.

Most of their products finally have a better style and much better build quality, starting with the P900 i'd say. That S700 has a pretty cool design. And their clamshell phones are easily the best amongst clamshell phones.

K700 is mine! I was going to buy t630 this week(it has been available for a while here), but it costs 300€, doesn't have VGA-camera and 32Mb memory, so I'll skip that and wait 2 months for k700. My first non-Nokia ever!

all the new chassises won't make it out before Q4, according to my sources.
SE have finally got their design act together. It wasn't so long ago that they only made boring phones.

k700 will be released Q2 in Scandinavia, I've confirmed that from several sources, even from SE press release. S700 will be released Q4, z500 won't be released at all, and we already have t637 and t237, they're just called t630 and t230. We get new phones fastest, because Nokia and SE are from Scandinavia. We're huge phonegeeks up here, if you didn't know it already.

New phones look really nice. I love my T610 (reception is decent, battery life is excellent) but I am getting a little bored. It really needs more memory and a better camera. Then life with be good I like the S700, very cool design, and such a gorgeous screen!
Oh, too bad the S700 won't be officially released in the states. D'oh. I'll start saving up for an import...

After a firmware upgrade, the reception of my t68i was on par with other phones...

Strange thing is none of these new phones seem to support the 850 band which is what At&T is moving over to.

I believe the t637 is 850/1800/1900MHz, although the site says two different things.
Link to 850 reference

Firmware upgrade, you say? I've never done one, and didn't even know it was possible. Got any links to info? (and how can I find out what version of firmware I already have?)

You have too send it to SE or a repair shop for them to flash it.

neither did the T610. that's why they added the T616. i'd expect them to release 850/1800/1900 versions of those phone if(when?) they are released stateside.

Damn, well that's inconvenient. I wonder if my local AT&T store would do it?

I just hope S/E makes it easier to send text messages. It is too cumbersome for selecting who you want to send to. That said, I love my T610.

"There were some other unrelated, however very interesting information provided today. Currently Sony Ericsson has no plans to releases a GSM Quad Band (850/900/1800/1900) handset in 2004. Sony Ericsson also stands behind their decision to leave the CDMA handset market. They actually credit their exit of this market as one of the causes for them turning a profit in the second half of 2003. P900 readers will be sad to hear there were no talks of any Wi-Fi compatibility for their units."

I'm in the same situation. I have a T68i and would really like a T630 but I am contracted until the end of the year. I almost went ahead and bough one anyway but refrained. Now there should be some new ones out by the time I am ready to buy - excellent! BTW has anyone worked out what the T637 does that the T630 doesn't? I wish they had a white version, I think it looks a lot nicer than the black but it might be better in real life (as opposed to photos).
Edit: Loks like I found one thing: It does instant messaging (with a Java app)!

So is the T637 the North American version of the T630, or are there other differences?

Really? But who will make a phone call if there is a free alternative? I just read this article push-to-talk and it seems to me that the range of this service is limited to a dozen meters around the cell phone.

it's half duplex. two people can't speak at once. therefore unsuitable for extended conversations. plus it's limited to other customers with push to talk on the same carrier as you.

Those new S/Es look pretty hot. I just bought a Nokia 3650 to use on weekends (I carry around a t-mobile GSM blackberry PDA/phone combo unit during the week, but it's too big and cumbersome for when going out on weekends) until these new S/E phones come out. Never having had a camera phone before, I'm looking forward to the whole bluetooth end of it, being able to copy photos off my phone to a moblog directory wirelessly.

Wow, I like the z500.. it removed my EVERY dislike (I mean few), of the z600.. the screen's full, the hinge is a little nicer looking, the inside is sleeker..
I like!
Now will THIS one be available in the US anytime soon? I really am waiting for a phone like that to come out

Do'h I guess I should have read it all...
The Z500 *IS* coming out in the US, near the end of the year..
One of it's OTHER negatives is total lack of bluetooth.. SONOFA(*@#$& sony's done it again..
And no word as of yet if the z600 will ever come out in the US, if ever... it seems like they're "too good" to sell decent phones in the US, maybe this is why everyone has nokia phones in the US.. >_<
I'm REALLY mad about this. I mean it was pretty nice but no bluetooth.. GOOD GRIEF! At that I might as well stick with my t720 even longer.
Too bad there are very few NICE clamshell phones.. doesn't anyone here feel my pain when it comes to this?

Of course they stand by th decision to leave CDMA... they couldn't make it work for over a year. All of the CDMA users who would like a bluetooth enabled phone are very limited by their carriers especially Sprint (or in this case Crawl when it comes to fully teature functional phones).

Rogers in Canada and At&T in the US is just switching over to it making people with 900 band phones trade them in for 850's.

Hmm, wonder why they went with 850 instead of 900 band. Oh well, I use T-Mobile so no direct effect unless I consider switching down the line.
