I know the files are still on my external firewire drive but I can't see it anymore. Is there any way I could make them reappear? The files are really large and I don't know where they went. Help please! Thanks.

Does Disk Utility see the drive? If so, try repairing it. If not, you'll need DiskWarrior.

ABN - Anything But Norton
Use something like Omni Disk Sweeper to examine the drive first - it is a "free" shareware app. It shows hiddent files as well.

as far as i know, its just the doctor that has gone mad, the rest of the nortone suite is still good- the unerase and the rest.
but, yeah, i agree, stay away from the doctor.
you can also get tinkertool to look at invisible files, but i dont think that these have gone invisible as much as they have been earmarked for deletion.
