Is this bad? Some people on the iPod forums over at apple are recommending against it. I have a bunch of Futurama quicktimes I made and (mpeg4) and would like to store them on the iPod always there if I want to watch them either at home or on the go. What do you think? Is that too much for the HD or should I just stick to using it for mp3's and occasional backup?

It's fine. There's plenty of storage on there.

The recommendation is to not BOOT off the iPod as an extrernal drive, because that requires fairly constant disk accesses. The iPod isn't designed for constant use -- it's not well ventilated and it can get really hot, which can (probably will) reduce the lifespan of the drive. If you're just storing files on there (even if they're BIG files), the drive won't be in use much, so it should be fine.

Keeping files like the odd film or TV rip on the iPod is exactly what it was designed for.

No worries.

You just don't want to do things that keep the drive running constantly for significant amounts of time, such as booting from it, or editing video from it.

Sustained use for a half hour won't harm it, it's hours of continuous heavy use that will fry it.

Thanks guys, so if I even watch a movie off of it, it should be okay? And as everyone seems to state here, the guy who uses it to edit video on on a constant basis will tend to wish he didn't do that... And watching a movie now and then is okay? Sorry my sentences are so messed up! I'm working off of like 3 hours of sleep!
