Now that I have everyone's attention...

I have 2 computers, and 1 printer. The printer (HP Deskjet 5150) is plugged in via USB on my PC (running Windows XP Pro SP1).

I have a PowerBook G4 running 10.3.3. The PC is plugged into my network via ethernet. The Mac is on the network via wireless.

Is there any way of sharing the printer from my PC, so I can essentially print wirelessly to it?

Thanks for any help

nice post subject by the way... and here i was thinking that i could get paid in gold for this help

i have not tried this with panther since i am on a mac osX only network now, and have a usb printer in my airport extreme basestation. hp 5150 actually.

i would suggest this. share the printer on your xp machine, and then go into printer setup utility and then add a printer and use windows printing.

on jaguar you had to hold down option while you clicked add and it would bring up a windows printing via samba option. i do not know if that windows printing option is the same thing or not.

if you have already tried that, then maybe the jaguar thing might help.

otherwise this is for jaguar. [url=http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20020824202229751]windows printing via samba[url].

p.s. since ^^ is for jaguar, i hold absolutely no responsibility if anything goes wrong. i seriously suggest you check it out first before you start putting in terminal commands.

Yeah, you need to add the TCP/IP printing to your windows box - (Add/remove windows components, network).

Share your printer on Windows - make note of the queue name.

on OSX, set up the printer, pick the drivers, and then select the port as TCP/IP - put in the IP address, and the queue name.

Viola - printing.

The steps may not be in the right order as I'm doing this from memory, but the concepts are there. I'm using this right now to use an aincient Epson ActionLaser 1500 (HP3si compatible) on OSX.
