I've got an older Powermac G4 at my work that I'm trying to hook an Apple Studio Display to. I picked up an Apple DVI to ADC convertor to get the Apple monitor to work, but when I plug it all together and boot the machine the monitor doesn't respond. I updated the OS the lastest version of OS 9 and tried tossing the monitor prefs away but it was still a no go. Are there any control panel settings or extentions I need to set before the converter will work? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Bill

What kind of Apple Studio Display did you try to plug in? The 20" Apple studio display doesn't work on OS 9.

Also, if the display is 23", then may be your old PowerMac G4 may not be able to drive such a high resolution.

It's the Apple 17" Studio Display (CRT). It's been awhile since I've dug around in a Mac OS other than 10, so I'm kind of over my head here. I appreciate any help though!

Thanks,
Bill

Hang on, some of the facts you stated isn't quite right...

If your monitor is indeeded a CRT (not LCD) Apple 17" Studio Display (I think it's either Blue & White colour or grey if my memory serves me right), according to this Apple Tech Info Library article, the monitor only has a VGA port.

Now, why are you plugging your PowerMac G4 to the monitor using DVI to ADC converter. That would not let you get the cable hooked together physically!

Also, have a look at the photos in that Apple article. Can you please tell me what sort of DVI port do you have on that PowerMac? If it is a DVI-D port (Instead of DVI-I), then it simply wouldn't work at all (with or without any kind of connector). DVI-D port does not drive any analog VGA signal to get it work.

Oh, I might not be right in my previous comments.

However, I might have some bad news for you. Have a look at note 2 in this Apple Tech Info Library.
